Cleaning vs. Replacement
Installing a new deck or fenceline is labour and material intensive. (That means "expensive", of course). If the wood is looking grey like driftwood, turning green or black with algae growth or maybe you have rust stains dripping down from every nail, we can help restore the wood to its natural colour. The average cost to build a new wood deck in Ontario can start around $7500 for a small, basic design. For a basic pressure treated wood fence, it can be in the range of $30 to $50 per linear foot. Cleaning and restoring is a fraction of the cost and can be a solid, cost effective option if the wood itself is in good condition. Cleaning and restoring the wood is the preparation stage before staining, sealing or painting.
Many companies will use harsh chemicals (like chlorine bleach) and high water pressure to kill and remove the biological growth, but this leaves the surface with 'furring'. It also breaks down the lignen in the wood, leaving it dry, brittle and susceptible to cracking, greying, more aggressive biological contamination and eventual rot.
At Valkyrie Power Wash, we use special cleaning solutions and good old fashioned scrubbing to target the biological buildup as well as rust stains and other grime. Our chemicals and methods are designed to preserve the natural lignen in wood, which is the structural binder that holds the wood fibres together. A wood brightener is then applied to bring back the natural wood tone. Heavy rinsing with lots of water removes the 'bad' while preserving the 'good'.
